About The Position

Arbour Counseling Services offers a clinical internship in its Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), beginning in December 2026. The internship provides training and supervision for students learning the responsibilities of a counselor or therapist within a multidisciplinary behavioral healthcare system. Interns gain clinical experience in a setting focused on quality care and documentation. The program aims to prepare interns to provide meaningful care in future positions at Arbour or elsewhere. The internship offers experience with groups, intakes, case management, and crisis management. Interns receive regular in-services on topics such as legal issues in mental health, the systems the program works with, ethics, resume writing, and job searching. Weekly supervision is provided by an independently licensed behavioral health provider (LICSW or LMHC), with additional supervision available from supervisors and clinicians. Professional development and support with work, life, and school balance are also provided. The clinical skills developed include clinical assessment and diagnosis of mental health and substance use disorders; individualized treatment planning; group and individual therapy; case management and aftercare planning; program operations; collaboration and multidisciplinary teamwork; insurance authorization and level-of-care assessments; medical-necessity justification; crisis management, risk assessment, and safety planning; and case presentations involving diagnostic discussion and education. The position is unpaid and on-site. Interns are expected to be available 24 hours per week, three days weekly from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Dates are determined by the Director to support the clinical experience. Staff meeting attendance is required on a day determined by location, as are an orientation session and agency-wide intern workshops. Interns may take up to four weeks of vacation during the year, with dates subject to Director approval and coordination. The PHP closes only on major holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day; interns are not guaranteed time off on adjacent days.
