About The Position

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is seeking applications from a diverse group of qualified individuals for part-time lecturer positions at both the San Bernardino Campus (SBC) and the Palm Desert Campus (PDC). The department is looking for experienced, well-organized, and student-centered individuals to teach in subject areas including General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry. Candidates must possess at least a Master's degree or specialized certification in Chemistry or a related discipline. Preference will be given to those with prior college or university-level teaching experience, evidence of strong teaching, and the ability to effectively interact with a diverse student population, including first-generation students. Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment is also preferred. Appointments are temporary, and workload can range from one course up to a maximum of 15 WTU. Staffing decisions are made on a rolling basis, and applications should be submitted at least 4 months before the start of an academic term for consideration.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Strong command of the subject matter, course design/preparation, instructional material, and organization (if teaching activities).
  • Master's Degree in Chemistry or related field in hand by time of appointment or enrolled in a Chemistry Master's Program.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic, or Analytical Chemistry.
  • Maintain a command of the subject matter.
  • Inspect lab for safety and preparation issues.
  • Perform experiments indicated in lab textbooks/manuals.
  • Maintain student attendance records.
  • Maintain regular communication with laboratory and recitation coordinator.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours outside of scheduled teaching times.
  • Meet lab coordinator and lecture instructors' expectations for grading, including returning graded work promptly.
  • Record grades regularly in Canvas.
  • Turn in final lab grades by the last day of final exams.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
  • Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.
