About The Position

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is seeking part-time graduate student applications for Teaching Associate positions at both the San Bernardino Campus (SBC) and the Palm Desert Campus (PDC). The department is looking for experienced, well-organized, and student-centered individuals to teach in General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Analytical Chemistry. Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching labs or discussions, maintaining active communication with the coordinator, and demonstrating the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students. Preference will be given to those with experience working with diverse populations, fostering inclusive environments, and those with relevant work experience and professional capabilities. Appointments are temporary, and staffing decisions are made on a rolling basis. It is recommended to apply at least 4 months before the start of an academic term.

Requirements

  • Must be a ‘classified’ student in a Master’s Program in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Must have completed one semester of graduate coursework.
  • Cannot be on probationary status or have any outstanding incomplete grades.
  • Must have a strong command of the subject matter, course design/preparation, and instructional material.
  • Must be able to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic, or Analytical Chemistry.
  • Inspect labs for safety and preparation issues.
  • Perform experiments indicated in lab manuals/textbooks.
  • Maintain student attendance records.
  • Maintain regular communication with the laboratory and recitation coordinator.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours outside of scheduled teaching times.
  • Meet expectations for grading, including returning graded work promptly.
  • Record grades regularly in Canvas.
  • Turn in final lab grades by the last day of final exams.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
  • Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.
