About The Position

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is seeking candidates for its Department of Art & Design Teaching Associate Pool. This position involves teaching a foundation or beginning-level course within the candidate's discipline, following a period of shadowing a professor teaching a similar course. The role requires a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population, and effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and students across various disciplines. The department offers bachelor's degrees in art history, design, studio art, and art education, along with graduate programs in Art and Studio Art. The teaching approach emphasizes visual and material literacy, critical analysis of art and design, and research, critical thinking, problem-solving, and writing skills. Requirements

  • Must be a ‘classified’ student in our Master’s of Fine Arts in Studio Arts program.
  • Must have been advanced to candidacy.
  • Cannot be in probationary status.
  • Cannot have any outstanding incomplete grades.
  • Must comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment (mandated reporter).
  • Must satisfactorily complete a background check.
  • Must complete Sexual Violence Prevention Training within 6 months of assuming employment and on a two-year basis thereafter.
  • May be required to file a Statement of Economic Interest annually and complete training if designated under California State University's Conflict of Interest Code.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a foundation or beginning-level course within their discipline.
  • Shadow a professor teaching a similar course in a prior semester.
  • Teach foundation or beginning-level curriculum.
  • Work within the department’s scheduling framework (typically 2 class meetings per week on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule).
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
  • Work effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
