About The Position

The Department of Biology at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is seeking applications for a part-time lecturer pool. This position is for both the San Bernardino Campus (SBC) and the Palm Desert Campus (PDC). The successful candidate will teach laboratory, discussion, and/or lecture sections in various biology subject areas including General Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology, Ecology and Population Biology, or specialized topics. Candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills and a commitment to enhancing student success. This is a pool of temporary, part-time lecturers, with staffing decisions made on a rolling basis. Workload can range from one course up to a maximum of 15 WTU.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Biology or a related field.
  • Strong command of the subject matter.
  • Skills in course design and preparation.
  • Ability to develop and utilize instructional material.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
  • Must be a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in General Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, or other topics in the field of Biology.
  • Maintain a command of the subject matter for the course(s) being taught.
  • Provide weekly instruction and supervision for assigned sections/courses.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment, including observing and adhering to safety guidelines, especially in laboratory activities.
  • Read and evaluate student papers, homework, and other assignments.
  • Promptly record and post student grades.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours outside of scheduled teaching times.
  • For laboratory or discussion sections, maintain regular communication with course coordinators.
  • Attend course team meetings.
  • Return graded work promptly.
  • Record grades regularly as appropriate for the course (e.g., in Canvas).
  • Return final section grades by the last day of final exams.
  • Respond to course or departmental-related emails within 48 hours.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
  • Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.
