About the position
As an Instructor in the Cybersecurity Engineering Program, you will be responsible for guiding and supporting a cohort of students throughout their course. Your role will involve delivering lectures, conducting hands-on lab sessions, and providing one-on-one instruction to help students grasp the course material. Additionally, you will collaborate with faculty and staff to develop curriculum, troubleshoot issues, and foster a sense of community among students. This part-time, fixed-term position requires teaching on-site in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and offers the opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of aspiring cybersecurity professionals.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with students as their dedicated leader for the course, including lecturing on course curriculum topics and conducting hands-on lab sessions
- Maintain the pace of the course, monitor individual student progress, and implement interventions when necessary
- Collaborate with external departments to improve course curriculum and student success
- Facilitate education operations in the Learning Management System
- Assign and review coursework, providing specific and useful feedback
- Lead projects to help students demonstrate mastery of content modules
- Conduct assessments and coach students on deepening their understanding of the material
- Monitor and engage in student discussions, providing technical assistance and fostering community
- Share personal passions and incorporate them into lesson plans
- Be available, responsive, excited, and kind to create a challenging learning environment
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching practices and student experiences
- Provide feedback to curriculum and teacher training teams

- Possess a BA degree or equivalent experience
- Have 2+ years of practitioner experience in the Cybersecurity field
- Prior instructional or training experience is a plus
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and judgment in different situations

- Work cross-functionally with colleagues from various departments
- Possess knowledge and experience in various cybersecurity areas and technologies
Requirements
- BA Degree and/or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of practitioner experience in the Cybersecurity field
- Prior instructional or training experience is a plus
- Strong communication skills and great judgment
- Service orientation and a desire to help people succeed
- Ability to work cross-functionally with colleagues
- Knowledge and experience/familiarity in network security, systems security, logs and detection administration, cyber threat intelligence processes, cryptography, application security, python coding, penetration testing, and GRC
- Familiarity with Linux, Windows, Mac OS, and their performance monitoring tools
- Familiarity with Wireshark, Command Line Network Tools (SSH, nmap, netstat, etc.), Vulnerability Scanning, Metasploit, Active Directory/LDAP, Network Diagramming
- Familiarity with Cisco, VyOS, PFSense router/switch configuration and administration, Ethernet and wireless networking and related protocols, VPN, remote access, and configurations of end points connected to corporate networks remotely, firewall administration, and digital forensics tools (FTK, EnCase, etc.)
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, and associated web development tools
- Predominantly SPLUNK experience
- Preferred experience in LogRhythm and Elk Stack
- Familiarity with Fedramp, NIST, HIPPA, PCI, Federal Risk Management Framework
- Risk analysis, risk assessment, risk scoring
- Expert knowledge of Public Key Encryption, TLS/SSL (RSA/ECC)
- Familiarity with certificate authorities and recent cryptographic attacks (SSL Strip, Heartbleed, Padding Oracles)
- Familiarity with waterfall, agile, spiral, etc. methodologies
- Familiarity with operating systems, tools, networking technologies, physical and virtual networking (VirtualBox, VMWare), governance, compliance, risk management framework, incident response planning, SIEM, system/application monitoring, or performance tools
- Familiarity with information security compliance standards and applying risk management processes
- Familiarity with NIST Risk Management framework
