About the position
As a full-time Data Science instructor, you will be responsible for leading students through a rigorous academic process, providing lectures, one-on-one sessions, assessments, and project reviews. Your role will involve acting as a technical resource and inspiration for students, guiding them through the course material, troubleshooting issues, and fostering a productive and inspired learning environment. Additionally, you may assist in onboarding new instructors and participate in internal and external events. The ideal candidate should have experience in data science and be comfortable with applied and experiential learning, as well as possess strong communication and coaching skills.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a minimum of 75 lecture hours per cohort.
- Work directly with students, elevating them to meet the technical bar.
- Maintain the cadence of the course, monitor individual progress, and implement interventions when students fall behind.
- Hold regular one-on-one and group coaching sessions with students.
- Help students in real-time through meetings, chat, and live video conversations.
- Facilitate Education Operations in Flatiron School's Learning Management System.
- Review coursework and provide specific and useful feedback.
- Lead project sprints and help students execute technical projects.
- Conduct assessments and coach students on deepening their understanding.
- Build community within student groups through connective experiences.
- Monitor and engage in student discussions.
- Share personal passions and incorporate them into lesson plans.
- Be available, responsive, excited, and kind.
- Collaborate with colleagues on community marketing, admissions, and career services projects.
- Use feedback to reflect and improve practice.
- Assist in onboarding new instructors.
- Participate in internal and external events.
- May occasionally substitute if needed.
