About The Position

The Paint Counter Salesperson provides over-the-counter direct sales to customers, takes orders in person and by phone, and supports the success of Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts store operations through sales programs and customer- and team-related activities. Sales focus on automotive and industrial paint, paint supplies, and equipment aftermarket products, and may also include automotive replacement parts. The role provides customer service, researches product availability and pricing, mixes paint, handles transactions and returns, and supports inventory, deliveries, store upkeep, and other operational activities. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. It is a safety-sensitive position involving heavy equipment and flammable and hazardous materials. Employment is subject to post-offer, pre-employment drug testing.

Requirements

High school diploma, equivalent experience, or motivation to pursue a GED.
At least one year of professional automotive parts experience or two years of hobbyist automotive parts experience.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively to groups of customers or employees.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts involving discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, and apply basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to use common-sense reasoning to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions and address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Basic computer knowledge, including web browsing and Microsoft Office.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Class E license required for Missouri locations.
Ability to meet the described physical demands, including regularly standing, walking, handling and reaching; occasionally sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in the described environment, including frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions, and occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock risk, and vibration.

Responsibilities

Provide exceptional customer service, help determine needed parts or paint, process paint formulas using a computer, mix paint, offer options to solve customer problems, and assist dissatisfied customers.
Research parts and paint availability, stock numbers, inventory status, and pricing using computers and catalogs.
Mix paint, pull parts orders, check in and stock merchandise, and straighten, dust, and rearrange stock as needed.
Handle cash and credit transactions and properly invoice or credit customer accounts.
Prioritize delivery items and assign deliveries to drivers, if applicable.
Handle new and defective core returns, ensure appropriate customer credit, and complete required paperwork.
Work on home-store inventory and assist with inventory at other locations, if assigned.
Cooperate and coordinate with coworkers as a team member.
Perform duties in compliance with legal, regulatory, and company safety guidelines, practices, and policies.
Open or close the store if assigned key-holder responsibility.
Clean and maintain the inside and outside of the building.
Maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
