About The Position

The Campaign Finance Board (CFB) is a nonpartisan, independent city agency dedicated to making local democracy more open, transparent, and equitable. The Public Affairs Division, specifically the Partnerships & Outreach Unit, focuses on engaging New Yorkers, informing them about elections, and boosting their participation in the democratic process. This role reports directly to the Senior Outreach Manager and is responsible for leading outreach, relationship management, and community engagement efforts to strengthen voter participation across New York City, supporting the NYC Votes initiative. The position involves implementing direct voter engagement efforts in priority neighborhoods and among historically underrepresented groups, including voter registration drives, community events, partnerships, canvassing, and text banking. The role also highlights the benefits of the Matching Funds program and increases awareness of the CFB's work. The Outreach Coordinator will plan, design, and execute multi-modal outreach events for all NYC elections.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of systems such as VAN, Mobilize, REACH, and other voter activation platforms.
  • Knowledge of volunteer recruitment, training, and management best practices.
  • Knowledge of volunteer platforms and recruitment connections.
  • Knowledge of CRM and other data systems in order to ensure accurate data tracking and reporting.
  • Skilled at speaking/engaging with and members of the public to ensure a positive experience with the CFB and NYC Votes brand.
  • Ability to produce and organize NYC Votes events in a priority neighborhood or community before each election (primary and general).
  • Ability to build a positive team culture and keep staff and volunteers motivated to achieve direct voter contact goals.
  • Ability to ensure that outreach plans are created in collaboration with unit strategy and support agency goals.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies and tactics to diversify and scale volunteer base.
  • Ability to create engagement levels for volunteers and build a path for leadership volunteer and development opportunities.
  • Ability to travel, public transit, navigate/deliver education across the city outside of working hours, during peak election season (8 weeks prior to election).
  • Ability to move and carry heavy objects up to 20 pounds over 50–100 m (e.g., from one block to another, or between multiple stops in a row).
  • Ability to break down complex civics topics into content that is appropriate for the audience.
  • Experience with event planning and program execution, including logistics coordination and resource distribution.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by at least twelve-semester credits (or the equivalent of twelve-semester credits) in accounting, auditing, business or public administration, computer science, economics, finance, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related area of study and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in accounting, auditing (including compliance or investigative auditing), business or public administration, business analysis, computer science, database administration, economics, finance, fiscal or economic management or research, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related field; or A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in “1” above; or Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with elections and voting work preferred, especially in NYC
  • Having led city-wide or otherwise large-scale public engagement campaigns for voting and election work, preferably in NYC
  • Understanding of voter universe creation and voter targeting, as it relates to non-partisan voter engagement and mobilization
  • Language (strongly preferred): Proficient in one or more of NYC Votes' covered languages

Responsibilities

  • Organize and lead outreach and community events to promote NYC Votes and increase voter participation.
  • Conduct regular outreach activities in priority neighborhoods and communities to strengthen awareness and build relationships.
  • Collaborate with the Education team to identify high-impact partners and assess outreach needs; co-create outreach plans with partner organizations.
  • Organize voter registration drives across the city, coordinating staff, interns, partners, and volunteers.
  • Support the identification of new potential partners aligned with priority communities.
  • Respond to voter inquiries directed to Public Affairs, providing accurate information regarding voting and elections.
  • Maintain internal tracking of outreach efforts, including event details, audience numbers, voter registrations, collateral distribution, and demographic reach.
  • Work with the Senior Outreach Manager and team members to target efforts in priority communities.
  • Ensure all outreach materials and messaging align with NYC Votes branding and mission.
  • Collaborate with Public Affairs units to develop effective promotional and outreach materials.
  • Support NYC Votes Get-Out-The-Vote efforts through event leadership and volunteer coordination.
  • Recruit volunteers to support GOTV and outreach events.
  • Work with the Senior Outreach Manager and relevant agency staff, particularly the Data team, to identify relevant and appropriate metrics, and to build and maintain processes that ensure data tracking and collection meets a consistently high standard for completeness and accuracy.
  • Update and monitor data systems to measure, track, and evaluate the Outreach team’s work.
  • Ensure Outreach data and dashboards are up to date and accurate.
  • Establish and maintain regular communication of Outreach team metrics.
