About The Position

A housing-first nonprofit is searching for an Outreach Coordinator to help people experiencing street homelessness to come indoors. This program makes regular contact with more than 2,000 street homeless individuals and connects more than 500 individuals to housing, medical and mental health services, substance abuse counseling and other essential supports each year. The caring, individually tailored attention clients receive at each stage of their journey from street to home ensures that more than 95% of people who are placed through this nonprofit remain stably housed. The Outreach Coordinator manages and supervises street outreach teams, providing coordination across the teams to ensure there is always staff deployed in the field and helps to triage and prioritize urgent requests or developing situations. This person ensures the team utilizes Harm Reduction and Housing First approaches when conducting street outreach. There are openings at multiple locations throughout Brooklyn and Queens, including day shifts or night shifts available.

Requirements

  • NYS Licensed Masters Social Worker required (LMSW)
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience required
  • Able to obtain 9.58 credentialing within first 3 months of hire required
  • Understanding of Housing First, client-centered motivational interviewing, Harm reduction models, behavioral and medical health systems
  • Experience with crisis intervention, including risk assessments and incident management
  • Proven ability to manage scheduling
  • Valid NY, NJ, CT or PA driver’s license with a good driving record required
  • MS Office Suite proficiency required

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Housing Advocates and a Team Leader II, providing regular performance feedback and fostering a culture of accountability.
  • Create staffing schedules that ensure continuous outreach coverage, including managing coverage for absences and vacancies.
  • Oversee daily outreach operations, ensuring canvassing strategies are informed by community needs, team feedback, DHS priorities, and historical 311 data.
  • Promote best practices rooted in Housing First, Harm Reduction, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ensure compliance with program contracts, regulatory requirements, organizational policies, documentation standards, and performance benchmarks.
  • Provide leadership during complex client situations, including conflict de-escalation.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, government agencies, service providers, the NYPD, EMS, and other stakeholders to address emerging community concerns.
  • Participate in the program's on-call rotation and perform other duties as assigned.
