About The Position

The Police Athletic League (PAL) is seeking a part-time Outreach Coordinator for the Edward Byrne Center, specifically at the Goldie Maple Academy Beacon in Far Rockaway, Queens. This role is crucial for recruiting and engaging youth in Beacon programs and activities, providing them with necessary services, and fostering their connection to the program and school. The Outreach Coordinator will work under the direction of the Beacon Director to connect youth with wraparound support services and mentorship programs, aiming to improve attendance and engagement.

Requirements

High school diploma required.
1-2 years of street outreach, youth development, or other relevant experience required.
Demonstrated skills and competency in culturally relevant approaches and youth development.
Non-judgmental approach and ability to empathize with others.
Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining community partnerships.
Experience working in an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
Ability to collaborate as part of a team.
Leadership skills in conflict intervention, negotiation, decision-making, and delegation.
Dynamic energy, able to multi-task and negotiate multiple requests.
Committed to working toward positive community change.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to speak effectively and persuasively to staff, members, parents, groups, and community residents.
Ability to work evenings, early mornings, and/or weekend hours as may be required periodically.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree or higher in a relevant human services field preferred.
Knowledge of and history with Far Rockaway community required.
Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute extensive outreach efforts to chronically absent and/or disconnected youth through community outreach, contact with local schools, faith-based and community-based organizations, human service providers, and other community stakeholders.
Conduct relationship-building with local community groups, churches, schools, public housing resident associations, parent groups, and nonprofits to support recruitment of diverse participants, including at-risk, out-of-school, and court-involved youth.
Conduct street work and street outreach to promote the visibility and accessibility of the PAL Beacon.
Coordinate with the Leadership team to ensure appropriate referrals and linkages for participants to co-located and referral-based wraparound services.
Provide mentorship to youth to encourage attendance in the Beacon program and school.
Maintain effective and productive working relationships with program managers and staff involved in service planning and provision.
Ensure communication and guidance from program staff to youth participants are carried out professionally.
Submit reports to the Beacon Director and/or PAL management as required.
Attend ongoing training and other technical assistance or professional development activities.
Organize and/or participate in external special events to promote PAL’s mission and image.
Convene meetings with Beacon staff, volunteers/interns, program participants, parents, community partners, and other stakeholders.
Maintain a binder to keep a record of all data collected.
Perform other relevant duties as delegated by the Program Director.
