About The Position

This is a Student Worker position for an Organic Chemistry Lab Teaching Assistant (TA). The primary role is to assist the laboratory instructor in delivering the lab, ensuring student safety, and guiding students through experiments and problem-solving. The TA will be responsible for preparing for each lab session, understanding the procedures, and helping students with pre-lab assignments and techniques. A key aspect of the role is to foster critical thinking rather than providing direct answers.

Requirements

Successfully completed one year of CHEM 260/261 before applying.
Currently authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

Prepare for every laboratory meeting by reading the laboratory manual and understanding each step of the procedure.
Familiarize yourself with pre-lab assignments to assist students with questions.
Attend and be on time for all scheduled lab sessions.
Assist the laboratory instructor with duties related to lab delivery.
Receive and adhere to laboratory safety training, including wearing goggles and appropriate clothing.
Circulate among students, answering questions and guiding their problem-solving approaches.
Observe students' techniques and correct poor practices.
Ensure students return common equipment to the proper location at the end of lab.
Ensure students clean up their work areas at the end of lab.
