About The Position

This is a Student Worker position for a General Chemistry Lab Teaching Assistant (TA). The role involves assisting the laboratory instructor with various duties to support the delivery of the lab. Key responsibilities include preparing for lab sessions, understanding experimental procedures, helping students with pre-lab assignments and lab techniques, ensuring safety guidelines are followed, and overseeing the cleanup and equipment return at the end of each session.

Requirements

Successfully completed one year of CHEM 110/111 before applying.
Receive laboratory safety training.
Follow all safety guidelines; wear goggles and appropriate clothing.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

Prepare for every laboratory meeting by reading the laboratory experiment in the laboratory manual and understanding every step of the procedure.
Familiarize yourself with pre-lab assignments to assist students with questions.
See the instructor before lab if you have difficulty with preparation.
Show up on time to perform duties.
Assist the laboratory instructor in duties directly related to the delivery of the lab.
Receive laboratory safety training.
Follow all safety guidelines, including wearing goggles and appropriate clothing.
Circulate among students, helping them with questions and ensuring proper technique.
Correct students when they show poor technique, guiding them to the right way of thinking about problems rather than giving answers.
Make sure students return common equipment to the proper location at the end of lab.
Make sure students have cleaned up their work area at the end of lab.
