About The Position

The OR Service Assistant supports ENT surgical services at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus by helping transport patients, setting up the operating room, maintaining surgical instruments and equipment, and assisting the registered nurse in providing a safe patient environment. The role works with ENT caregivers and surgeons who provide nonsurgical and surgical treatment for conditions affecting the ears, nose, and throat. The scheduled hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to handle and lift patients; manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to stand and walk for extensive periods.
• Frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
• Corrected vision and hearing within the normal range.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
• Comply with the influenza prevention program, including annual vaccination or an approved exemption.
• Offers of employment are followed by testing for controlled substances.

Nice To Haves

• Sterile processing certification.
• Two years of experience in sterile processing.
• Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, service-specific surgical instruments, equipment, and surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain surgical instrument sets and equipment and ensure proper sterile conditions.
• Provide limited assistance to surgeons, including holding a limb or retractors, suctioning, and sponging wounds.
• Clean used instruments after surgery; assemble and maintain some instruments as needed for proper cleaning and sterilization.
• Ensure sterile conditions, order supplies, and stock and maintain operating-room service storage areas.
• Assist in transporting patients.
• Assist the registered nurse in maintaining a safe environment for the patient.
• Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.
