About The Position

Boscov’s is seeking a Licensed Optical Manager to join its Optical team. The role combines dispensing optician duties with management responsibilities in a fast-paced retail environment. The manager serves customers, oversees appointments and insurance information, manages department operations and upkeep, and acts as a liaison between customers and the lab to help ensure orders are processed on time.

Requirements

• Active license to work as an optician in the state, kept current.
• At least 2 years of retail management experience, with a results-oriented approach and a record of meeting goals.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Strong ability to supervise and mentor others to support customer satisfaction and sales.
• Ability to use computer systems for sales, ordering, and timekeeping.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to understand patients’ needs.
• Ability to resolve customer complaints tactfully and achieve positive outcomes.
• Reliability and punctuality to maintain store hours and coverage.
• Flexible scheduling availability, including Saturdays and special sales events.
• The position is active and requires moving throughout the department during the shift.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service, oversee appointment scheduling, answer incoming calls, and ensure customer interactions reflect Boscov’s commitment to quality and care.
• Interpret prescriptions; perform optical measurements; verify prescriptions using a lensometer; dispense eyewear; complete fittings and adjustments; and process customer orders from sale through delivery.
• Lead, coach, and develop store associates to achieve sales goals, provide excellent customer service, and maintain operational excellence.
• Oversee daily operations, including scheduling, workflow, order management, inventory support, and timely customer communication about order status.
• Process and verify third-party vision insurance benefits and claims accurately and in accordance with company procedures.
• Follow company policies, state licensing requirements, HIPAA regulations, and confidentiality standards when handling patient information.
• Manage opening and closing procedures, cash handling, point-of-sale transactions, and daily financial reconciliation.
• Partner with the Director of Optical Services to drive business performance, address operational and maintenance needs, support associate development, and build relationships with independent doctors and Boscov’s store leadership.
• Keep the optical department clean, organized, and visually appealing in accordance with Boscov’s brand standards.
