About The Position

The Operations & Finance Manager will own profitability and execution across a growing fashion group operating two businesses in the US and Peru: a direct-to-consumer and wholesale clothing brand, and a manufacturing operation producing the group’s products and private-label products. The group has about 80 people across three entities, including employees, contractors and fractional specialists. The role is intended to make the business more profitable and reliable, reduce its dependence on the founder, and serve as the founder’s delegated operational authority within agreed financial and operational limits. The position focuses on profitability analysis, cost control, cash flow, resource allocation, reporting, team accountability, operating systems, AI and automation, and cross-department execution. It works closely with the founder, bookkeeper, treasury and invoicing lead, and Peru general manager. The role is fully remote, based in Eastern Europe or South Africa, with working hours of approximately 6 a.m.–2 p.m. New York time. Applicants must be willing to work remotely as an independent contractor and handle tax procedures in their country of residence.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ownership of cross-department execution, team accountability, performance challenges, and operational decisions; ideally in a multi-entity, founder-led, or 50+ person business.
  • Experience in a physical-product business such as e-commerce, consumer goods, retail, wholesale, or manufacturing, with a strong understanding of inventory, supply chains, margins, and working capital.
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including interpreting P&Ls, cash-flow forecasts, and receivables; assessing margins, inventory efficiency, labor productivity, and profitability by channel, product, or customer; and converting findings into operational decisions.
  • A proven track record with SOPs, KPIs, and process improvement.
  • Hands-on experience building workflows and integrations using Zapier, Make, n8n, or similar tools; ideally experience building AI agents and demonstrating savings.
  • Ability to build reliable operating systems, documentation, and repeatable processes, and become productive with new platforms quickly.
  • Proactivity and sound judgment, including the ability to spot problems and propose fixes without step-by-step instructions.
  • Remote-work experience and the organization and follow-through to deliver without regular check-ins.
  • Willingness to work remotely as an independent contractor and manage tax-related procedures in the country of residence.
  • Availability to work approximately 6 a.m.–2 p.m. New York time (midday–8 p.m. in Eastern Europe/South Africa).

Nice To Haves

  • Fashion or apparel brand experience.
  • Wholesale experience, for example with Faire, or private-label experience.
  • Notion experience.
  • Experience as a founder’s operational second-in-command and ambition to grow toward a COO role.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze gross and contribution margins, inventory efficiency, labor productivity, and profitability by channel, product, and customer; translate findings into operational decisions and measurable improvements.
  • Assess how purchasing, production, staffing, pricing, and sales decisions affect profit, cash flow, and working capital; recommend and lead resource-allocation improvements.
  • Review expenses across the group, including software, payroll, logistics, vendors, and financial services; eliminate unnecessary costs, renegotiate or restructure agreements, and improve rewards and transaction costs.
  • Establish regular expense reviews to keep costs under control and protect margins.
  • Work with the bookkeeper, treasury and invoicing lead, and Peru general manager to ensure accurate and timely P&Ls, receivables and payables, reconciliations, and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Ensure payments are collected, identify potential cash shortfalls weeks in advance, challenge reporting, and make clear recommendations based on the numbers.
  • Develop KPIs for departments and key roles, beginning with the design team; set owners, deadlines, and reporting rhythms, follow up on missed commitments, and inform the founder about important exceptions.
  • Audit repetitive work and build AI agents, automated workflows, and integrations to reduce contractor hours and administrative work; measure time and cost savings.
  • Create SOPs, repeatable processes, and accessible documentation in Notion so ownership, handovers, and key information are easy to find.
  • Lead operations across US finance, e-commerce, and Peru manufacturing; establish ownership, address missed commitments and underperformance, resolve cross-team issues, and make decisions within agreed limits.
  • Lead improvements involving vendors, supply chain, and internal operations, escalating matters requiring the founder’s authority with a clear recommendation.
  • Take ownership of operational correspondence, decisions, and follow-ups currently handled by the founder; resolve issues within agreed limits and drive actions through to completion.

Benefits

  • Minimum 20 days of PTO, including public holidays.
