Operations Campus Manager

Intersect•Amarillo, TX
•$221,000 - $260,000•Onsite

About The Position

As Campus Operations Manager — Meitner Energy Center on Intersect's Operations team, this is the premier on-site asset leadership role in Pampa, Texas, with single-point accountability for the safety, performance, and long-term reliability of a multi-technology generation campus powering co-located Google data center infrastructure. The campus includes approximately 500 MW of solar PV, 650 MW of wind generation, 1 GW / 2 GWh of battery energy storage, 300 MW of fast-start reciprocating gas generation, and a 345kV/34.5kV breaker-and-a-half switching station. A 300 MW BESS and 300 MW gas microgrid are configured for islanded operation to sustain critical data center load independently of the ERCOT grid. The manager directs an integrated leadership tier of Solar, Wind, BESS, Gas, and High Voltage / Substation Site Managers, together with internalized maintenance teams. The role maximizes campus Equivalent Availability Factor (EAF), maintains NERC CIP and ERCOT compliance, and ensures power delivery from commissioning through long-term operations. It partners with Engineering, Technical Services, Asset Management, Origination and Trading, executive leadership, the Transmission Service Provider, and local authorities. The position leads the campus from construction handoff into long-term operation, setting operational standards for a complex combination of dedicated clean energy and flexible thermal infrastructure. It requires full-time, on-site work in Pampa / Gray County, Texas, with up to 20% travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Clean Energy Management, or equivalent technical military or field leadership background.
  • 10–12+ years of experience in utility-scale power generation operations, including at least 5+ years managing complex, multi-technology clean energy sites, hybrid power plants, or heavy industrial campuses.
  • Proven experience managing other managers and leading multidisciplinary, internalized maintenance teams in high-consequence, 24/7 operational environments.
  • Deep operational familiarity with medium-voltage (35kV) collector systems and high-voltage (345kV) substation architecture.
  • Hands-on expertise in at least two of the following technologies: solar PV, wind generation, BESS, or reciprocating gas generation.
  • Hands-on knowledge of microgrid and islanded operations, including grid-forming inverter controls, black start, and seamless load transfer for critical behind-the-meter data center or industrial load.
  • Working knowledge of ERCOT market protocols and reliability standards, NERC CIP compliance, OSHA Title 29 protocols, and local frameworks such as Chapter 312 tax abatement compliance.
  • Proficiency with SCADA/EMS platforms, SideTracker, Stampli, G Suite, Lucidchart, and generative AI tools such as Claude and Gemini.
  • Commitment to full-time, on-site work in Pampa / Gray County, Texas, with up to 20% travel, including leadership through construction and commissioning and Texas Panhandle weather extremes.
  • Strategic, people-first leadership grounded in safety, accountability, and operational rigor, aligned with Intersect's stated values.

Nice To Haves

  • Breaker-and-a-half high-voltage substation architecture experience.
  • Experience with high-voltage substations rated 345kV or 230kV+.
  • Experience managing multi-technology utility-scale generation sites with two or more of wind, solar PV, BESS, or gas thermal.
  • Experience operating or maintaining readiness for an islanded microgrid or hybrid plant serving critical behind-the-meter load.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership across co-located solar PV, wind, BESS, and fast-start reciprocating gas assets, aligning technology-specific targets with a unified campus strategy.
  • Manage, mentor, and evaluate Wind, Solar, BESS, Gas, and High Voltage / Substation Site Managers; establish consistent governance, work practices, and reporting cadences.
  • Optimize campus Capex and Opex through shared logistics, collective spare parts management, cross-utilization of labor and tooling, and financial workflows in Stampli and SideTracker.
  • Oversee safe, continuous operation of the 345kV/34.5kV breaker-and-a-half switching station and 35kV collector pathways, including switching, clearances, and outage coordination across generation and behind-the-meter load.
  • Maintain readiness of the 300 MW BESS and 300 MW reciprocating gas microgrid for islanded operation, including grid-forming inverter controls, black start, transition and resynchronization procedures, and verification testing.
  • Serve as the primary on-site interface with the Transmission Service Provider, balancing authority, and ERCOT scheduling coordinators, ensuring NERC CIP and ERCOT reliability standard compliance.
  • Partner with Origination and Trading and the Operations Control Center to optimize real-time dispatch across clean energy, BESS state of charge, and fast-start gas while meeting power factor, market, and data center commitments.
  • Direct preventative maintenance programs suited to Texas Panhandle environmental conditions and lead root cause analyses with Technical Services.
  • Lead construction-to-operations handoff across technologies, including commissioning validation, punch list closure, staffing execution, and executive briefings using operational and business data.
  • Enforce a zero-harm safety culture under OSHA Title 29 protocols, standardizing LOTO, high-voltage switching, arc flash procedures, and incident command across battery, gas, wind rescue, and severe weather hazards.
  • Manage local regulatory and community obligations in Gray County, including Chapter 312 tax abatement compliance, wildlife mitigation plans, and county road agreements.
