About The Position

The Oklahoma State Department of Health is hiring an Occupational Therapist for its SoonerStart early intervention program in Purcell, Oklahoma. SoonerStart serves families with infants and toddlers from birth to age three who have developmental delays and/or disabilities, providing support and resources to promote learning and development through everyday activities. The Occupational Therapist provides diagnostic and therapeutic occupational therapy services, primarily for children with physical impairments or difficulties. The role works with caregivers and children to improve mobility, function, independent movement, and skills needed for daily routines. Services are provided in natural environments where children typically spend time, such as their homes or childcare settings, and include screenings, evaluations, intervention, and parent education. The position may be filled at Level I, II, or III, with responsibilities and experience requirements varying by level. The position is part-time and temporary, with a Monday–Friday schedule and hours that may vary.

Requirements

Master’s degree in occupational therapy.
Current Oklahoma Occupational Therapist license issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. For Level I only, a valid letter of eligibility from the Board is accepted while it remains valid; a permanent license must be obtained before the probationary period expires.
For Level II: one year of professional experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist, or an advanced Master’s degree or Doctorate in pediatric rehabilitative services, pediatric occupational therapy, special education, or a closely related field may substitute for the experience.
For Level III: three years of professional experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist; an advanced Master’s degree or Doctorate in pediatric rehabilitative services, pediatric occupational therapy, special education, or a closely related field may substitute for up to two years of the experience requirement.
Knowledge of professional occupational therapy principles, practices, and ethics; therapeutic techniques and their application; and materials used in occupational therapy programs.
Ability to use therapeutic equipment and materials; evaluate skills and abilities; administer prescribed treatments or conduct planned activities; interpret medical plans; establish effective working relationships; communicate effectively orally and in writing; exercise initiative and independent judgment; and supervise occupational therapy student interns during fieldwork.
Provide documentation of required education, certification, or licensure at the time of application.
Willingness to perform job-related travel.
Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship; applicants are subject to a background check.

Responsibilities

Provide early intervention services in the child’s and family’s natural environment, such as the home, childcare setting, or park.
Recommend standardized treatments and interventions based on developmental indications.
Complete child assessments concerning developmental, educational, and social skills and abilities.
Participate in family interviews.
Conduct intakes, including client interviews, and assessments to recommend appropriate services.
Participate in developing and implementing Individualized Family Service Plans in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
Serve on an interdisciplinary team monitoring the effectiveness of child health and development services.
Develop treatment plans addressing areas of need, including routine-based activities, neuro-motor and sensory-motor functions and activities, and child/family coaching and education.
Participate in assessment, design, and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices.
Evaluate the child’s response to treatment or intervention and recommend changes as needed.
Maintain confidential service records, including progress notes and evaluation reports, in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Supervise Occupational Therapy Interns during fieldwork experience, as applicable to the position level.
Perform other duties as assigned.
