About The Position

The NYSID Janitor Custodian Porter cleans and sanitizes restrooms and other areas, including furniture, floors, walls, and carpets, using established practices and procedures. The role involves emptying and cleaning wastebaskets, trash containers, and ashtrays, and refilling restroom dispensers. The employee uses and maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools, follows instructions for the use of cleaning chemicals and supplies, and may move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools as needed. Duties may change or be added to meet business needs with management approval. Employment is at-will and governed by Goodwill NYNJ's NYSID Janitorial Transitional Work Policy; employment in this role may not exceed 21 months after the original hire date.

Requirements

Two to three years of janitorial experience.
Ability to read and comprehend complex janitorial instructions.
Ability to pay attention to detail and follow detailed, involved written or oral instructions.
Ability to distinguish cleaning chemicals.
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
Complete knowledge of floor machines, including buffers, burnishers, and side-by-side machines.
Ability to work night shifts.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize restrooms and bathrooms according to established practices and procedures.
Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors.
Empty and clean wastebaskets, trash containers, and ashtrays, and refill restroom dispensers.
Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis.
Complete additional duties as assigned.
