About The Position

The NYSID Janitor Custodian Porter cleans and sanitizes restrooms and other areas, including furniture, floors, carpets, walls, and waste containers. The role involves using and maintaining assigned power equipment and hand tools, following instructions for chemical and supply use, and occasionally moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools. Duties may change or be added to meet business needs, with management approval. This role is governed by Goodwill NYNJ’s NYSID Janitorial Transitional Work Policy and may not continue beyond the last day of the 21st month following the employee’s original hire date. The policy does not guarantee employment for a specific duration; employment is at-will.

Requirements

Two to three years of janitorial experience.
Ability to read and comprehend complex janitorial instructions.
Ability to pay attention to detail and carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions.
Ability to distinguish cleaning chemicals.
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
Complete knowledge of floor machines, including buffer, burnisher, and side-by-side machine.
Ability to work night shifts.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize restrooms and bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty and clean wastebaskets and trash containers; clean ash trays; and refill restroom dispensers.
Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, including vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees, for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis.
Complete additional duties as assigned.
