About The Position

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program. The role requires working 24 productive hours per month. Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing in an associate or bachelor’s degree program.
• Ideally have at least six months remaining before graduation.
• Completion of a Fundamentals or Foundations of Nursing course.
• Obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment start date.
• Be able to work 24 productive hours per month.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility, comfort, and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency grow.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery.
• Keep patient areas clean and safe by following infection-prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment.
• Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.
