About The Position

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

The position includes providing essential patient care, performing basic nursing tasks as competency develops, documenting care and communicating with the nursing team, helping patients and families understand care plans, and maintaining clean and safe patient areas. Nurse Externs also participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Associate degree or bachelor's degree.
• One year of experience required.
• No travel required.

Responsibilities

• Help patients with activities of daily living, check vital signs, support mobility, and ensure comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection prevention practices and managing equipment.
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.
