About The Position

The Nurse Extern delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated basic patient-care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern assists nursing staff with patient care in accordance with their skills and training and departmental needs. They help maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe patient-care environment. The Nurse Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing and may perform higher-level procedures after achieving competency.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, obtained and maintained within the time frames required by hospital policy.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited RN nursing program.
• Eligible for consideration after completing the first nursing semester, or as a CNA in the first semester of an RN program.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.

Responsibilities

• Provide appropriate care for the patient populations served in the department.
• Communicate pertinent information to appropriate individuals.
• Deliver compassionate, holistic care while supporting patients’ rights and dignity.
• Document patient-care information in the appropriate computer screens.
• Assist assigned patients with activities of daily living.
• Help maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe patient-care environment.
