About The Position

Rapides Regional Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern for its nursery. As a Nurse Extern, you will be part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience across the Registered Nurse role while helping provide safe, compassionate patient care. You will build skills and confidence as you progress through your nursing program and work with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred: completed foundation, fundamental, or Med Surg I clinical.

Responsibilities

• Help patients with activities of daily living, check vital signs, support mobility, and ensure comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as competency develops.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance related to health and recovery.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection prevention practices and managing equipment.
• Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas for improving care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.
