About The Position

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

The role includes helping patients with activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility, comfort, and hygiene; performing basic nursing tasks as experience and competency develop; documenting care and communicating with the nursing team; helping patients and families understand care plans; and maintaining clean, safe patient areas. Nurse Externs are also expected to engage in learning opportunities and partner with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.
• Associate degree or bachelor's degree.
• No experience required.
• No travel required.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery.
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection-prevention practices, managing equipment, and keeping the environment organized.
• Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.
