Nurse Extern - Med/Surg Oncology
About The Position
The Nurse Extern works on the Med/Surg Oncology unit at Henry Ford Rochester Hospital, gaining exposure to the specialty while building clinical knowledge and preparing for the transition from nursing student to professional nurse. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the extern provides patient-centered care that supports patient safety, comfort, and well-being. The role also supports the nursing team, responds to emergent situations, and contributes to high-quality care while advancing nursing education. The schedule is 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.; the position is contingent.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, or current enrollment in the Henry Ford Health Early College Program with completion of two clinical rotations.
- Enrollment in an accredited school of nursing with completion of two clinical rotations, including one in Med/Surg in an acute care setting.
- Current Health Care Provider Certification.
Responsibilities
- Perform specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs under RN supervision.
- Provide input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
- Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures.
- Participate in continuing education to enhance nursing skills and knowledge.
