About The Position

The Nurse Extern role provides expanded clinical experience for professional (RN) nursing students and assists Registered Nursing staff by performing patient care activities. These activities include participating in patient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation, and reporting significant observations to a Registered Nurse.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• American Heart Association BLS CPR certification, to be obtained within 7 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Accurately checks patients’ blood sugar and documents results as ordered, reporting all values to the attending nurse.
• Obtains vital signs appropriately based on the patient’s age and condition.
• Reports abnormal findings immediately to the attending or charge nurse.
• Coordinates care with other health professionals.
• Provides appropriate treatment in emergency situations, such as codes and patient falls.
• Notifies the nurse of changes in a patient’s condition.
• Performs related duties as required.
