Nurse Extern PRN Trauma MS
About The Position
The Nurse Extern delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern assists nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with their skills and training and the needs of the department. The role also supports a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. Nurse Externs are currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing and may perform higher-level procedures after demonstrating competency. This PRN position is with TriStar Skyline Medical Center, a 350+ bed facility and state-designated Level 1 Trauma Center. The facility also provides comprehensive stroke care, neuroscience services, burn care, inpatient rehabilitation, and emergency heart care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, obtained and maintained within time frames required by hospital policy.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited RN nursing program and in good standing.
- Eligible for Nurse Extern consideration after completing the first nursing semester, or as a CNA in the first semester of an RN program.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for the patient populations served in the department.
- Communicate pertinent information to appropriate individuals.
- Deliver compassionate, holistic care while supporting patients’ rights and dignity.
- Document patient care information in the appropriate computer screens.
- Assist assigned patients with activities of daily living.
- Assist nursing staff with delegated basic patient care services under RN supervision.
- Help maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment.
