About The Position

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

The position offers opportunities to gain confidence in nursing skills and expand knowledge in a hospital setting, network with hospital and nursing leaders before graduation, and interview for and secure RN residency positions early. Scheduling is flexible to accommodate classes and clinicals.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing for a Registered Nurse degree or LVN degree.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living, vital-sign checks, mobility, comfort, and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance related to their health and recovery.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection-prevention practices and managing equipment.
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.
