Student Nurse Extern PRN
About The Position
The Student Nurse Extern (SNE) participates in the program at one of three levels: Student Nurse Extern I, Nurse Extern II, or Nurse Extern III. The extern assists nursing staff with selected procedures and routine duties in patient care. All duties must be within the scope of training for the extern’s level and performed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Additional skills and responsibilities are added as the student progresses through their undergraduate nursing program. The position has varying PRN shifts. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty instructor or leader in their nursing program with their initial application.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in a nursing program.
- Must submit a recommendation from a faculty instructor or leader in the nursing program with the application.
- Must meet one of the following: Kentucky State Registry (SRNA); successful completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing course; or one year of experience as a nurse aide.
Responsibilities
- Assist nursing staff with selected procedures and routine duties in caring for patients.
- Perform duties within the scope of training for the assigned extern level and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Take on additional skills and responsibilities in alignment with progression through the undergraduate nursing program.
