About The Position
The Nurse Extern delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated basic patient-care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern assists nursing staff in providing care in accordance with their skills and training and the needs of the department. The role also helps maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe patient-care environment. The Nurse Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing and may perform higher-level procedures after achieving competency.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, obtained and maintained within the time frames required by hospital policy.
- Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited RN nursing program.
- Eligible for consideration after completing the first nursing semester, or as a CNA in the first semester of an RN program.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for patient populations served in the department.
- Communicate pertinent information to appropriate individuals.
- Deliver compassionate, holistic care while supporting patients’ rights and dignity.
- Document patient-care information in the appropriate computer screens.
- Assist assigned patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Perform delegated basic patient-care services under RN supervision.
- Assist the patient-care team in maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe environment.
