Nurse Extern II Med Surg Per Diem Days
About The Position
DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is hiring a Nurse Extern II for its Med Surg service. The Nurse Extern II is part of the patient care services team and provides technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The RN delegates tasks according to patient needs and the extern’s skills and abilities. The extern reports deviations from expected patient parameters to the RN. Specific patient care tasks may vary depending on the unit or service line and the patient population. Each shift, the Nurse Extern II is assigned to an experienced RN and assists with patient care, including activities of daily living, vital signs, ambulation, and other duties within the scope of a patient care technician or equivalent. The assigned RN instructs and mentors the extern in the clinical area and provides ongoing feedback.
Requirements
- Applicants may apply starting six months before graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Must pass all senior courses to remain in the program.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision.
- Complete tasks delegated by the RN according to patient needs and the extern’s skills and abilities.
- Report deviations from expected patient parameters to the RN.
- Assist with activities of daily living, vital signs, ambulation, and other duties within the scope of a patient care technician or equivalent.
- Work with an experienced RN each shift and receive instruction, mentoring, and ongoing feedback.
