Nurse Extern II Med Surg Per Diem Nights
About The Position
The Nurse Extern II (NE II) is a member of the patient care services team whose primary responsibilities include technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The NE II works under the supervision of a registered nurse, who delegates tasks based on patient needs and the NE II’s skills and abilities. The NE II reports deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse. Patient care tasks may vary by unit or service line based on the patient population. Each shift, the NE II is assigned to an experienced RN and assists with care such as activities of daily living, taking vital signs, ambulation, and other duties within the scope of a patient care technician or equivalent. The assigned RN instructs and mentors the NE II in the clinical area and provides ongoing feedback.
Requirements
- Applicants may apply starting six months before graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Must pass all senior courses to remain in the program.
Responsibilities

- Work under the supervision of a registered nurse, completing tasks delegated according to patient needs and the NE II’s skills and abilities.
- Report deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.
- Assist with activities of daily living, vital signs, ambulation, and other duties within the scope of a patient care technician or equivalent.
- Receive instruction, mentoring, and ongoing feedback from the assigned RN.
