Nurse Extern II Per Diem Days
About The Position
DMC Harper University Hospital is a specialty referral hospital recognized for clinical expertise and innovative research, with Centers of Excellence in neurosciences, bariatric surgery, vascular services, multidisciplinary cardiovascular services, hypertension, stroke prevention, and heart failure. The Nurse Extern II is part of the patient care services team and performs technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The Nurse Extern II works under the supervision of a registered nurse, who delegates tasks according to patient needs and the extern’s skills and abilities. The extern reports deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse. Patient care tasks may vary in type and frequency by unit or service line based on the patient population. Each shift, the Nurse Extern II is assigned to an experienced RN and assists with patient care, including activities of daily living, vital signs, ambulation, and other duties within the scope of a patient care technician or equivalent. The assigned RN provides instruction, mentorship, and ongoing feedback.
Requirements
- Applicants may apply starting six months before graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Must pass all senior courses to remain in the program.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities.
- Work under an RN’s supervision and perform tasks delegated according to patient needs and the extern’s skills and abilities.
- Report deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.
- Assist with activities of daily living, vital signs, ambulation, and other duties within the scope of a patient care technician or equivalent.
- Receive instruction, mentorship, and ongoing feedback from the assigned RN.
