Nurse Extern I Stepdown Per Diem Days
About The Position
DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is DMC’s largest hospital and provides a range of services, including heart care, cancer care, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and cosmetic services. The hospital also operates more than 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties. The Nurse Extern I (NE I) is part of the patient care services team and performs technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The NE I works under the supervision of a registered nurse, who delegates tasks based on patient needs and the NE I’s skills and abilities. The NE I reports deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse. Specific patient care tasks may vary by unit or service line according to the patient population. Students hired as Nurse Extern I perform the duties of a patient care tech or equivalent role.
Requirements
- Successfully complete the Fundamentals of Nursing course at an accredited school of nursing.
- Successfully pass all courses to remain in the program.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities.
- Work under a registered nurse’s supervision and perform tasks delegated according to patient needs and the NE I’s skills and abilities.
- Report deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.
- Perform patient care technician or equivalent duties.
