About The Position

Boston Medical Center’s New Graduate Nurse Residency Program supports newly licensed nurses as they transition into practice. The program incorporates the Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies and hires new graduate nurses in cohorts. After four months of training, nurses assume a position on a Step Down unit. Applicants must have graduated from nursing school within the 12 months before their hire date. The role covers nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and families across the health care continuum. Nurses are accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient-care outcomes, following the nursing department’s model of care and established policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice. The position reports to the Unit Nurse Director. The schedule is 36 hours with a day/night rotation. The anticipated cohort start date is March 2027. The posting states that new graduate nurses in non-critical-care areas are expected to remain in their roles for at least one year after completing orientation; it also notes a two-year commitment for Step Down units after the investment in the new graduate RN.
