About The Position

Boston Medical Center’s New Graduate Nurse Residency Program supports newly licensed nurses as they transition to practice. The program incorporates the Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies and hires new graduate nurses in cohorts. Following four months of training, nurses assume a position on a Step Down unit. The units request a two-year commitment after investing in a new graduate RN. The role is for nurses who graduated from nursing school within the 12 months before their hire date. It encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health care continuum. The registered nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes, using the nursing department’s model of care and following established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice. The position reports to the Unit Nurse Director. This residency is for the Surgical Step Down (IMCU) department, with a 36-hour schedule and day/night rotation. The anticipated start date is March 2027. Applicants must submit an online application with a resume and letter of intent combined into one PDF. Candidates must apply only to the Step Down New Grad program; candidates who also apply to experienced RN positions will not be considered. Active BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers is required, and flu vaccination is required before starting. Massachusetts RN registration and current licensure in good standing are preferred before the start date.
