Boston Medical Center’s New Graduate Nurse Residency Program supports newly licensed nurses in transitioning to practice and incorporates the Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies. New graduate nurses are hired in cohorts and complete four months of training before assuming a position on a Step Down unit. The role is for nurses who graduated from nursing school within the 12 months before their hire date. The registered nurse provides nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health care continuum. The nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes, following the nursing department’s model of care and established policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice. The position is in Surgical Step Down (IMCU), has a March 2027 start date, and reports to the Unit Nurse Director. The posting notes that new graduate nurses in critical care are expected to remain in the role for a minimum of two years from hire; nurses in other BMC practice areas are expected to remain for at least one year after completing orientation. It also states that units request a two-year commitment after investing in the new graduate RN.
