About The Position

The New Grad RN position is for recent RN graduates or those with less than one year of RN experience. Those hired as a New Grad RN will work under a licensed RN until license can be verified. In conjunction with working on this unit New Grad RNs attend Intermountain’s one-year nurse residency program. The nurse residency program supports New Grad RNs in their transition from classroom to caregiver through webinars, simulations, case studies, and in person meetings. An RN with more than one year of nursing experience is not required to attend the nurse residency program. Requirements

  • Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing/RN education program (education will be verified).
  • Current RN License in state of practice.
  • RN Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years of their hire date.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in state of practice.
  • Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of the start of employment.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN).
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required as of the job description's last update on 4/27/2025. Employees hired or promoted prior to this date will be held to the minimum requirements that were in place at the time of their promotion or hire.

Responsibilities

  • Attend Intermountain’s one-year nurse residency program (for those with less than one year of RN experience).
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Obtain BSN within five years of their start date (for RNs with less than 12 months of working experience as an RN prior to joining Intermountain).
  • See and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate verbally and hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy using manual dexterity of hands and fingers.
  • Frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients.
  • Bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.
  • Walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
  • Push/pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
  • Navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.).
  • Stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • Drive a vehicle (for roles requiring driving).
