About The Position

Vighter is recruiting a Neurologist to serve at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at and around Fort Hood, TX. This role delivers patient-centered, evidence-based care while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and Vighter clinical policies. The Neurologist performs a wide range of medical duties covering all aspects of disorders involving the nervous system and neurologic disorders with possible multiple overlapping problems. Vighter is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) which provides professional healthcare staffing services to Federal, State, and Local government clients. Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in the state of practice.
  • Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification as identified in the base contract
  • Shall possess a minimum of two (2) years of post-residency clinical experience within the last three (3) years providing direct patient care in neurology.
  • Experience must demonstrate recent hands-on proficiency in evaluating, diagnosing, and managing adult patients across a broad spectrum of acute and chronic medical conditions in accordance with current clinical standards of practice.
  • Background shall reflect competency in conducting and interpreting neurological examinations, ordering and reviewing diagnostic studies, developing treatment plans and coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Board certified in Neurology.
  • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred).
  • Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for adult patients.
  • Provide inpatient consultation during normal duty hours. May be required to provide consultation outside of normal duty hours.
  • Performs a wide range of medical duties covering all aspects of disorders involving the nervous system and neurologic disorders with possible multiple overlapping problems to include, but not limited to, neurologic complications of system disorders, trauma to the nervous system, vascular disorders of the nervous system, tumors involving or affecting the nervous system, infections of the nervous system, demyelinating disorders, ischemic injuries to the nervous system, metabolic derangements, dementia, movement disorders, sleep disorders, seizures, headaches, neuromuscular and/or other degenerative disorders.
  • Examines patients, orders, and evaluates the full range of tests to include, but not limited to, electrophysiology, radiology, and laboratory tests.
  • Makes diagnosis and prescribes appropriate treatments to include drugs and behavioral modalities.
  • Make referrals to other specialty clinics.
  • Communicate with patients referring physician and appropriate primary care manager for management of disorders outside the specialty of neurology.
  • Provides recommendations or definitive evaluation for neurology problems.
  • Provides episodic care to clinic patients on walk-in basis.
  • Evaluates and treats patients with multiple complicated problems screened and referred by the Emergency Room for urgent and emergency neurologic issues.
  • Occasionally consults services for pediatric patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

  • Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
