About The Position

Grip-Tite is seeking a National Utility Sales Manager to own business development for its utility market. The role reports to Senior Leadership and is remote within the United States, with a location preference for the South, Southeast, Texas, or Midwest. The employee must live within 45 miles of a major airport and should anticipate extensive travel of 60–75%. The role may require travel to Grip-Tite’s plant in Winterset or its home office in Johnston, Iowa, when customer or quality issues require it. The primary purpose is to grow sales of Grip-Tite guy-wire anchors, forged anchor rods, and Power-Grip Hub Anchor systems through electric utility distributors and investor-owned utilities. The manager will build a productive manufacturer’s-representative network in uncovered territories, recover and expand EUDA houses, and convert IOU sales activity into standards, stock, and repeat orders. This is an outcome-focused position working directly with distributor houses and utility agencies, rather than a territory-maintenance or staff role. Grip-Tite has manufactured earth anchors in Iowa for more than 100 years. Its utility product line is growing with cooperative distributors and investor-owned utilities. The company emphasizes American-made products, honest lead times, and direct factory support.

Requirements

  • Eight or more years selling pole-line hardware, anchoring, guying, or closely adjacent transmission and distribution material to U.S. electric utilities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing relationships with at least two cooperative-owned utility distributors, including EUDA members.
  • Demonstrated experience appointing or managing manufacturers’ representative agencies, not merely calling on representatives.
  • Ability to acclimate to cooperative culture and investor-owned utility standards and sourcing processes.
  • Willingness to travel and work from the plant in Winterset or home office in Johnston, Iowa, when customer or quality issues require it.
  • Clear, direct communication skills and ability to write short account plans.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills and ability to adapt to changing business needs.
  • Integrity and commitment to doing what is right without taking shortcuts.
  • Ability to demonstrate confidence and product knowledge without arrogance.
  • Efficient time-management skills and ability to dedicate appropriate time to each key accountability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, and expertise in ERP systems.
  • Strong persuasion and negotiation skills.
  • Initiative-taking and purposeful approach to work.
  • Sense of urgency, responsiveness, and promptness in serving prospects and customers.
  • Ability to prepare and edit presentations and documents accurately.
  • Ability to prioritize and negotiate conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain company confidentiality and proprietary information.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience putting a product on an investor-owned utility construction standard or approved materials list.
  • Experience recovering a distributor relationship after a quality or delivery failure.
  • Technical fluency in guy anchors, including holding capacity, soil, rod diameter, hub versus expanding anchors, cross plates, and installation torque versus design load.
  • Residence in or sales coverage of Texas, the Southeast, or an Upper Midwest territory.
  • Current or prior employment with a competitor or strong utility agency, with demonstrated success building relationships.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience is accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Appoint two to three quality manufacturers’ representative agencies in uncovered regions and hold existing agencies to sales productivity standards.
  • Recover and rebuild a lost client or distributor relationship through in-person contact and operational support.
  • Open a targeted cooperative-owned distributor as a stocking customer whose catalog includes the same market segments in which Grip-Tite operates.
  • Grow a network of electric utility material and utility supply distributors through specification and stocking.
  • Drive profitable revenue growth while maintaining pricing integrity, minimizing margin erosion, and ensuring customer concessions have sound business justification.
  • Move targeted investor-owned utilities from sales activity and relationship development to measurable conversions and sustained revenue.
  • Open additional investor-owned utilities through the agencies developed.
