About The Position

The Multi-Purpose Clerk may be assigned to one of several store departments: Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, or Janitorial. The role promotes sales, answers customer questions, responds to product requests, and accurately places special orders. It also involves safe food handling, keeping work areas clean and free of safety hazards, receiving and inspecting shipments, and stocking, rotating, and merchandising products to maintain freshness and department appeal.

Department assignments may include operating a checkstand and performing point-of-sale and inventory activities; preparing and displaying produce, meat, seafood, bakery, or deli products; serving customers and taking special orders; or cleaning and sanitizing store areas. Duties common to all departments include sweeping and mopping sales floors, front ends, back rooms, and refrigerated areas. The clerk may operate a forklift if authorized and certified, or a baler if authorized, and may perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
• Ability to be proactive, show initiative and enthusiasm, and remain flexible on the job.
• High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
• Six months of related experience.
• Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
• Frequent standing and other physical movements; ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.

Responsibilities

• Promote sales in the assigned department and answer customer questions and product requests.
• Accurately place special orders.
• Follow safe food-handling procedures and keep work areas clean, orderly, and free of safety hazards.
• Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
• Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
• Operate the checkstand according to company policy and procedures; memorize PLU codes and stay current with new products.
• Order, receive, unload, stock, and rotate products in Center Store operations; perform point-of-sale and inventory activities.
• Trim, wash, and wrap produce according to company policy; maintain the floral area and clean department areas and equipment.
• Weigh, wrap or package, and label meat and seafood products; serve customers at the seafood counter and take special orders; keep department areas and equipment clean.
• Prepare, weigh, package, and label bakery and deli products; take special orders; keep department areas and equipment clean.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the store, including sales areas, restrooms, break rooms, offices, shelving, cases, equipment, shopping carts, vending machines, and the parking lot; empty trash.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
