About The Position
The Multi-Purpose Clerk may work in one or more store departments, including Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, or Janitorial. The clerk promotes sales, answers customer questions, responds to product requests, and accurately places special orders. The role includes following safe food-handling procedures and maintaining clean, orderly work areas free of safety hazards. Clerks receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality, then stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal. Department assignments may include operating a checkstand and performing point-of-sale and inventory activities; preparing and merchandising produce, meat, seafood, bakery, or deli products; assisting customers at the seafood counter; taking special orders; or maintaining store cleanliness and sanitation. Some assignments may involve operating department equipment. Across departments, clerks may sweep and mop store areas and may operate a forklift or baler when authorized, with forklift use requiring certification. Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
- Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and be enthusiastic and flexible on the job.
- High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
- Six months of related experience.
- Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
- Frequent standing and other physical movements are required.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Responsibilities
- Promote sales in the assigned department and answer customer questions and requests.
- Accurately place special orders.
- Follow safe food-handling procedures and maintain clean, orderly work areas free of safety hazards.
- Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
- Operate the checkstand according to company policy and procedures; learn PLU codes and keep up to date with new products when assigned to Center Store/Front End.
- Order, receive, unload, stock, and rotate products in center store operations; perform point-of-sale and inventory activities.
- Trim, wash, and wrap produce and maintain the floral area when assigned to Produce.
- Weigh, wrap or package, and label meat and seafood products; provide seafood-counter service and take special orders when assigned to Meat/Seafood.
- Prepare, weigh, package, and label bakery and deli products; take special orders such as cakes and party trays when assigned to Bakery/Deli.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the store, including floors, refrigerated areas, restrooms, break rooms, offices, shelving, cases, equipment, shopping carts, vending machines, the storefront, and parking lot; empty trash when assigned to Janitorial.
- Keep assigned department areas and equipment clean.
- Sweep and mop sales floors, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas across departments.
- Operate a forklift if authorized and certified, or a baler if authorized.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
