About The Position

The Multi-Craft Mechanic III works at Abbott’s Altavista, Virginia plant in the Abbott Nutrition division. The position maintains high-speed production equipment used to manufacture nutrition products and performs varied mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, fabrication, machining, welding, and equipment installation or rearrangement. The role also documents completed work and is accountable for meeting FDA, OSHA, and Abbott compliance standards and procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Understanding of mechanical systems.
• Mechanical and spatial aptitude.
• Good math and writing skills.
• Knowledge of hydraulic and fluid systems, including proper oil and grease lubrication procedures.

Nice To Haves

• Welding certification.
• Backflow prevention certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the plant’s high-speed production equipment used to make nutrition products.
• Perform non-repetitive mechanical repairs and troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoot mechanical fluid and utility systems.
• Perform fabrication, machining, and welding.
• Install or rearrange equipment.
• Complete work documentation.
• Meet FDA, OSHA, and Abbott compliance standards and follow applicable policies and procedures.
