About The Position

Merchants Bank in Rochester is hiring a Mortgage Lender to serve potential real estate loan customers for both in-house loans and loans sold to the Secondary Market. The role emphasizes relationship banking and working with teammates in the local market to develop mortgage opportunities. The Mortgage Lender also cross-sells consumer banking products and services, analyzes customer needs, and recommends appropriate Bank products and services. The position requires travel and work with customers and real estate professionals outside the Bank, sometimes under varying conditions and hours.

Requirements

3–5 years of residential lending experience.
High degree of ability or aptitude in financial analysis.
Sales ability and customer orientation.
Confidentiality and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent customer relations skills.
Ability to travel and meet customers outside the Bank.

Responsibilities

Serve potential real estate loan customers for in-house loans and loans sold to the Secondary Market.
Interview loan applicants to build rapport and obtain necessary information.
Manage the loan pipeline, follow up with applicants, and guide loans through closing.
Cross-sell other banking services and recommend products based on customers’ needs.
Be knowledgeable about construction lending.
Monitor loan activity and recommend changes to assist management.
Follow established procedures for Secondary Market loans.
Comply with laws concerning financial institutions and complete required compliance documentation.
Network with local realtors and other referral sources to maintain a consistent pipeline and monthly closings.
Maintain dependable attendance and contribute to a positive working environment.
Greet internal and external customers in a friendly manner and provide outstanding service.
Represent the Bank with a positive, professional image and handle sensitive situations skillfully.
