Entry Level Mobile Diesel Mechanic

Cox Enterprises•St. Louis, MO

About The Position

Cox Fleet is hiring trainees for its paid FleeTec Academy, a program that prepares participants for a career as a Mobile Diesel Mechanic and Diesel Technician. The program provides paid classroom education in diesel engine fundamentals and truck repair, travel expenses, hotel accommodation, a meal stipend, a paycheck, and a set of hand tools with a toolbox. Training includes classroom study at the Academy Campus and additional classroom sessions in Indianapolis, followed by hands-on training with a Lead Technician in the participant’s market. Upon completion of the initial classroom phase, trainees are offered a full-time job. Successful completion of the multi-year program leads to qualification as a Diesel Technician. Mobile Technicians use an assigned, equipped vehicle to perform preventative maintenance and general repairs at customer locations. The work is intended to help customers keep their vehicles running efficiently, rather than regularly performing emergency roadside repairs. The role includes travel, with the posting indicating 100% travel. Training pay is described as $16 per hour (or state minimum wage, whichever is greater) plus a taxed $250 weekly stipend for the initial phase, followed by $19 per hour for six weeks, then a four-week classroom phase in Indianapolis at $19 per hour plus a taxed $250 weekly stipend, and $21 per hour upon graduation. The general compensation section lists an anticipated hourly base range of $13.70–$20.53, potentially with additional commission or incentive compensation. Applicants should be motivated to pursue diesel maintenance, able to study diligently, willing to spend 10 weeks away from home, mature and focused, technically inclined, interested in fixing vehicles, and able to operate an iPad. Applicants must be at least 21 to drive a company truck. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. The hiring process includes background, driving-record, pre-employment drug, and physical checks. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
