Mill Operator Trainee
About The Position
The Mill Operator Trainee supports safe production at Freeport-McMoRan’s Chino open-pit copper mining complex in southwestern New Mexico. The operation includes a concentrator that produces copper and a solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode. The role involves maintaining and operating concentrator equipment, inspecting equipment and work areas, assisting with maintenance, completing housekeeping duties, and learning basic metallurgical milling principles. Candidates must complete required competencies and may need to pass a written assessment covering skills, academic knowledge, and safety.
Requirements
- At least three months of experience in mining/manufacturing, industrial operations, commercial construction, commercial landscaping, or commercial agriculture.
- Complete required academic and practical competencies, including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable, and demonstrate the required aptitude.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills and pass a written assessment where required; the assessment may cover skills, abilities, academic knowledge, and safety.
- Ability to communicate in English regarding job assignments, procedures, and applicable safety standards.
- Knowledge of milling, crushing, and conveying equipment, including its operating parameters, limits, and functionality.
- Pass required training and/or testing.
- May be required to pass a medical exam.
- Comply with mandatory pre-employment drug testing and ongoing drug and alcohol testing as permitted by applicable laws.

Responsibilities
