About The Position

The Automation Liaison serves as the dedicated point of contact for all automation and AI initiatives across the Mid-Revenue Cycle, supporting Coding, Revenue Integrity, and Provider Education. This role bridges operational subject matter expertise with the Revenue Cycle Automation & AI Center of Excellence (COE), translating frontline workflow challenges into validated automation opportunities. The Liaison is accountable for identifying high-value use cases, evaluating return on investment, partnering with the COE on solution design and user acceptance testing, and leading the citizen developer program within the Mid-Revenue Cycle to scale automation capacity at the local level. Works in a team environment providing support to revenue analysts and revenue cycle leadership under minimal supervision. Actively communicates and presents pertinent information to various audiences, particularly practice and finance leadership. Proactively identifies opportunities and recommends options for enhancing revenue, while preserving Mayo standards and minimizing the financial and legal risks to Mayo. Interprets, implements, and maintains billing and compliance rules across the revenue cycle. Is recognized and relied upon as a subject matter expert of a revenue or compliance technical area. Uses reporting tools to understand revenue and compliance risks and opportunities with significant impact to Mayo Clinic and conveys these risks and opportunities to leadership. Interprets and applies Mayo and governmental coding and billing rules and guidelines to ensure compliance. Conducts research and analysis, benchmarking, and audits to ensure reasonableness and accuracy of information along with identifying and implementing best practices and improvements. Provides revenue and billing analytics to support department and institutional leadership. Proactively identifies and communicates revenue and billing problems and opportunities; seeks input and participates in implementing solutions or process improvements. Mentors, coaches, and trains staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, mathematics, business administration, accounting, finance, healthcare business related fields or statistics) and 1 year of relevant experience; OR High School diploma and 5 years relevant experience.
  • Has a highly developed understanding of coding, billing and compliance practices.
  • Has knowledge of revenue recognition systems and practice billing systems.
  • Highly developed investigational skills, shows attention to detail, accuracy and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Possess initiative, analytical skills, and an ability to operate with a high level of productivity.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and develop constructive working relationships with others.
  • Has advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorships now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or healthcare business related field preferred.

  • Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Certification Preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise automation platforms such as UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Microsoft Power Automate, or Blue Prism, including involvement in development, testing, or deployment of automations.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to query databases independently for analysis, validation, and opportunity sizing.
  • Experience with Epic and related revenue cycle applications (e.g., Resolute, HIM coding workflows).
  • Familiarity with AI and intelligent automation concepts, including document understanding, machine learning, and agentic workflows.
  • UiPath certification (e.g., UiPath Citizen Developer, RPA Associate, or Automation Developer Associate).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the single point of contact for Coding, Revenue Integrity, and Provider Education leaders and staff to surface, intake, and triage automation requests.
  • Conduct workflow assessments and process discovery sessions to identify candidates for automation, including RPA, intelligent document processing, and agentic AI solutions.
  • Maintain a prioritized pipeline of opportunities, partnering with operational leaders to align automation initiatives with departmental and enterprise goals.
  • Facilitate ideation sessions and design-thinking workshops with stakeholders to refine and qualify use cases.
  • Quantify the financial and operational impact of proposed automations, including FTE savings, cost-to-collect impact, denial reduction, throughput, and quality improvements.
  • Develop business cases and intake documentation (e.g., SBARs, project charters) to support governance review and prioritization.
  • Track realized benefits post-deployment and report value capture against original projections.
  • Partner with finance and analytics teams to validate baseline metrics and post-implementation outcomes.
  • Collaborate with COE developers, solution architects, and product managers to validate process design, technical feasibility, and solution scope.
  • Coordinate and lead user acceptance testing (UAT), including test plan development, scenario validation, defect tracking, and sign-off coordination with operational owners.
  • Act as the operational voice in solution design reviews, ensuring automations reflect real-world workflow nuance, edge cases, and compliance requirements.
  • Support hyper-care, change management, and post-go-live optimization in partnership with the COE.
  • Lead and grow the citizen developer community within Coding, Revenue Integrity, and Provider Education, including recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing mentorship.
  • Coordinate citizen developer training cohorts (e.g., UiPath StudioX) in partnership with the COE training team.
  • Provide governance oversight for citizen-developed automations, ensuring adherence to enterprise standards for security, documentation, and lifecycle management.
  • Champion adoption of low-code and no-code tools, building local capacity and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide regular status updates, intake reports, and value realization summaries to Mid-Revenue Cycle leadership and the COE.
  • Translate technical concepts into clear, accessible language for operational audiences, and conversely articulate operational requirements to technical teams.
  • Represent the Mid-Revenue Cycle in enterprise automation governance forums and prioritization committees.
