About The Position

Saint Francis Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Of New England, is seeking a part-time Message Center Operator to join its healthcare team. The operator works at a regional hospital switchboard, handling incoming and outgoing calls, using the public address system, responding to code situations, and providing routine approved patient information. The role also supports callers with courtesy and tact, refers inquiries as appropriate, and contacts security when employees or visitors request escorts or other assistance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience answering telephones as the primary job responsibility.
• Ability to gather and interpret data in situations where information or problems are not overly difficult or complex.
• Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Accurate typing and spelling skills.
• Ability to exchange information on factual matters, explain hospital policies, and relay messages to appropriate personnel.
• Courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors, and hospital employees.

Nice To Haves

• Telephone Message Center and/or hospital operator experience.
• Multilingual skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate a multiple-line telephone console to answer, transfer, and relay incoming telephone calls and place outgoing calls.
• Operate the public address system as requested.
• Identify and respond to code situations.
• Provide routine approved patient information to callers and refer other inquiries to a supervisor.
• Provide excellent customer service to all callers.
• Contact security when employees or visitors request escorts to parking or other assistance.
