About The Position

The Merchandising Assistant Store Manager leads associates to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked store. The role is accountable for achieving sales and margin goals, improving operational efficiency, and maximizing customer satisfaction with the in-store experience. The manager may provide full leadership over the store and collaborates with store leadership peers, the District Manager, and Area support staff to assess customer needs and meet service, sales, and operational objectives. The position may rotate through Specialty and Operations assignments for cross-training and development.

The role does not require regular travel, but occasional travel may be needed for meetings, training, or support at neighboring stores. The position is generally scheduled for 48 hours per week, with additional hours possible based on business needs. Availability is required for mornings, afternoons, and evenings any day of the week. The work may involve prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities needed to perform job duties, as well as lifting at least 25 pounds without assistance and possibly more than 25 pounds with or without assistance.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience leading associates in a retail environment.
• At least 3 years of experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional work environment.
• At least 1 year of experience performing manager-on-duty responsibilities, including management of daily store operations and processes within and beyond assigned areas of responsibility.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to obtain sales-related licensure or registration as required by law.
• Availability for morning, afternoon, and evening shifts any day of the week.
• Physical ability to perform duties that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance; ability to lift more than 25 pounds with or without assistance.
• If required by state or local municipality, hold a salesperson license or pass the required licensing exam within 60 days of starting employment.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience leading service associates in retail or consumer service.
• At least 3 years of experience performing manager-on-duty responsibilities, including management of daily store operations and processes within and beyond assigned areas of responsibility.
• Experience working in the home improvement retail sector.
• Broad knowledge of interior and exterior product categories, such as flooring, cabinets, millwork, building materials, appliances, home décor, lighting, and plumbing.
• Experience working with store computer systems, including Project Tool, Genesis, M2O, or Thin Client.

Responsibilities

• Anticipate customer flow and work demand, and redirect efforts and schedules to provide coverage where and when needed.
• Plan for sales spikes and ensure sufficient in-stock products to support demand.
• Conduct safety walks, monitor use of store power equipment, and coach associates on safe work practices.
• Lead associates in providing exceptional customer service and maintaining a clean, safe, and well-stocked store.
• Achieve sales and margin goals, drive operational efficiencies, and maximize customer satisfaction.
• Provide full leadership over the store when needed.
• Collaborate with store leadership peers, the District Manager, and Area support staff to assess customer needs and develop methods for achieving service, sales, and operational objectives.
• Rotate through Specialty and Operations assignments when asked for cross-training and development.
• Travel occasionally to meetings, trainings, or neighboring stores when needed.
